Let’s pump the brakes on the hype train! The highly anticipated exhibition clash between former undisputed heavyweight king Mike Tyson (50-7, 44 KO) and five-division world champion Floyd Mayweather (50-0, 27 KO) is getting pushed back to a later date.
Word on the street was that these two legends were supposed to throw down on April 25 in the Congo. The contracts are signed, sealed, and delivered, with CSI Sports/Fight Sports bringing the broadcast right to your living room. But hold onto your boxing gloves — a brand new date and location will drop soon.
Iron Mike, who celebrated his 59th birthday this past June, is definitely not shy about his ambitions. He recently boasted that this matchup is going to completely eclipse all of Mayweather’s past glory.
Let’s not forget Tyson’s recent track record. After a 2020 draw against Roy Jones Jr., the boxing world watched him go the distance (all eight two-minute rounds) against Jake Paul in Arlington back in 2024, ultimately dropping a unanimous decision. Oh, and his last official pro bout? Way back in 2005, when he took a TKO loss to Irishman Kevin McBride.
As for Money Mayweather, he is a pristine 50-0 and just announced he is stepping out of retirement to hit the pro circuit once again. The 49-year-old has not lost a step. He has already pencilled in a June exhibition with Greek kickboxing star Mike Zambidis in Athens. Why? Just a little warm-up before his massive, officially scheduled rematch against Manny Pacquiao on September 19 in Las Vegas.
Looks like we will just have to wait a bit longer for the Tyson-Mayweather spectacle. Keep those calendars flexible!
